Ever felt a stuck, a restless, bored or desperately unhappy with your current circumstances?
This letter is for you.
I’m Samantha Booth Jacobsen, founder of The Changing Booth, and this is the story behind our vision for Digital Discovery 2031 - and why I believe we’re standing on the edge of a new era of recreation and digital discovery.

🌱Feeling Stuck Is a Signal to Explore
The Changing Booth was born from a place of reflection, not from a business plan. Every time I felt stuck or needed to change my circumstances, I noticed the same pattern: things only shifted when I broke my everyday routine and tried something new.
Sometimes that meant signing up for a course in a subject I knew nothing about. Sometimes it meant booking a trip to a place I’d never been, choosing a different kind of adventure, or saying yes to something unfamiliar. Other times it was smaller, but just as powerful - reading a new book, discovering a new artist, or letting myself see the world through a new lens.
Those moments taught me something important: change doesn’t have to be dramatic to be meaningful. It often starts with one intentional choice to try something new. And the Internet is a great place to start that journey.
“Discovery doesn’t have to be dramatic to be life-changing; it just has to be intentional.”
🚪The Internet as a Doorway, Not a Maze
In many of those moments, the Internet was exactly the resource I needed. It opened doors to ideas, experiences, and communities I never would have found otherwise. But the road to the destination wasn’t always easy.
I found myself searching endlessly, refining queries, clicking through noise, and waiting for my algorithm to realise that I was ready for something different. The internet knew a lot about my past behaviour, but very little about where I wanted to go next.
That frustration sparked a simple question: what if discovering things to do online didn’t require a million searches or waiting for an algorithm to catch up?
“With The Changing Booth, you don’t have to wait for your algorithm to catch up - you can step into something new right away.”
That question became the foundation for The Changing Booth. I wanted to create a place where people could move quickly from “I feel stuck” to “I have options,” without endless scrolling or being boxed into recommendations based on who they’ve been before.
Instead of being told what “people like you” usually do, you get to decide what kind of energy you want to invite into your day.
🎨 Do you want to feel creative?
🌿 Calm?
🔍 Curious?
🎈 Playful?
🧘 Grounded?
🚀 Adventurous?
On our curated things to do online page, you’ll find virtual experiences, creative challenges, and small experiments designed to act as starting points - not rigid paths. The idea is simple: get inspired quickly, then let curiosity lead you from there.
At its core, The Changing Booth is about trusting that you already know when something in you is ready to shift. We’re here to support that moment with thoughtful suggestions, not to define who you are.
🌈Digital Discovery 2031: Standing on the Edge of a New Era
This is where Digital Discovery 2031 comes in.
I believe we are standing on the precipice of a new era of recreation in the 21st century - one where meaningful experiences are no longer limited by location, resources, or rigid systems of recommendation. For the first time, we can explore rich, engaging experiences from almost anywhere, in ways that fit into real lives.
Digital Discovery 2031 is our roadmap for building that future. It’s a vision of discovery that is mindset-led, borderless, and human-first. Rather than sorting people by demographics or personality types, we focus on state of mind - how you want to feel today, and what kind of experience might support that.
“We’re not just listing activities - we’re opening a booth where you can step into a new version of your day.”
🤍Discovery as a Gentle Companion
I do not see discovery as a loud, high-pressure process. Not everyone wants to “reinvent their life” every weekend.
For many of us, discovery looks like:
🌱 One brave new experience in a month that we might repeat
🎓 A single workshop that shifts how we see a topic
🖼️ A quiet virtual museum tour on a rainy evening
🤝 A playful online challenge shared with a friend
✍️ A creative exercise that reminds us we’re capable of making something
The Changing Booth is here to support that softer, more sustainable kind of exploration.
I want it to feel like a companion you can turn to when you sense that something in you is ready to stretch, or soften, or play - even if only for a few minutes.
🧭Why Digital Discovery 2031 Matters
The Digital Discovery 2031 roadmap is our way of naming, clearly and publicly, what we’re building toward.
It’s a promise that:
🧠 We will prioritise your mindset over your metrics
🌍 We will design for borderless, location-independent experiences
🤝 We will use technology to support your agency, not override it
🎯 We will curate with care, intention, and respect for your attention
It is also an invitation to hold us accountable.
As we introduce new features - including AI-assisted suggestions in the coming years - we will do so transparently, with clear options and explanations. You have a right to know how your experience is being shaped, and to choose how much you want technology to participate in that.
📝A Final Personal Note
I currently live in Malmö, Sweden, but the community I imagine for The Changing Booth is not tied to any one place.
I envision people around the world opening the website on a Tuesday evening, or a Sunday morning, or a lunch break, thinking:
“I can't manage a complete life overhaul right this second. But I am willing to try something small and new for today.”
If The Changing Booth can meet that moment with a gentle, well-chosen suggestion - something that feels just within reach, but a little outside the usual patterns - then this project is doing its work.
You do not need to become a different person to be worthy of new experiences.
You are already worthy now.
What you do deserve are tools that respect that truth - tools that trust your ability to choose, to feel, to sense what you need, and to experiment with what comes next.
💌An Invitation
